Selected cardiovascular imaging research

John M. Kennedy, MD, FACC has collaborated with internationally recognized cardiovascular imaging expert Matthew J. Budoff, MD on research involving coronary artery disease, coronary artery calcium, cardiac computed tomography, and cardiovascular risk assessment.

Research impact

Dr. Kennedy's work with Dr. Budoff helped investigate the emerging role of cardiac CT and coronary artery calcium in identifying and assessing coronary artery disease. His first-author American Heart Journal publication was subsequently cited in the ACCF/AHA Expert Consensus Document on Coronary Artery Calcium Scoring.

Behavioral cardiology and stress reduction

Dr. Kennedy's research focuses on the relationship between emotional stress and cardiovascular health, and on practical methods that reduce emotional and physiologic stress.

Research impact

Cardona and Kennedy evaluated the BREATHE stress-reduction intervention in 29 physicians at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi representing 10 medical specialties. The study examined the physiologic effects of a brief, app-based stress-reduction intervention, with mean heart rate decreasing from 70 to 65 beats per minute following the exercise.
